I was banded in May 2005 when I weighed 14.7 stone and felt absolutely wretched. It was the heaviest I'd ever been. My blood pressure was soaring, everything was chafing, I was breathless and lethargic and as our mentor quipped - found it difficult to 'wipe my own bum'.
I suppose the trouble started when I went to the US as a Nanny when I was 18 - I went a size 6/8 and came back aged 22 as size 14/16. After this childbirth, depression and a series of starvation diets and diet pills just piled on the weight. Every time I dieted (I could own shares in Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Rosemary Conley etc.... by now) I just put the weight back on - and more. My life just seemed to spiral out of control. I lost two massive chunks of 5 stone whilst under GP's care with Lipotrim but same old story I regained it all plus! I tried Xenecol but just pooed fat and still put on weight.
In a nutshell - you name it I tried it. I took up Marathon running, did aerobics, swimming, yoga etc - all to try and lose weight but the more exercise I did the more I ate. I even taught people to look after themselves but in the end I was a total failure.
One day, at my most desperate I saw an ad for obesity surgery in a newspaper and immediately went home and searched the internet. I found Sharon and hey ho, here I am. The road has not been easy - it's not a quick fix but I'll keep at it and never want to return to the way I was. I now weigh under 10 stone - please see the after and before photos that follow. There is hope!!
Note from editor: Charlotte attended the BUPA hospital in Bristol for her surgery - click here for further details on this and the Avon Obesity Service.
