This needs to include details of your surgery, type of 'band' and record of your 'fills' to date.

We also need to be aware of underlying conditions where the treatment may be affected by weight loss and your current medication. Some people with medical conditions chose to have their ongoing medical management within the team.

Long term care / emergency treatment.

Patients who have had weight loss surgery (particularly gastric banding) tend to think that ‘an emergency’ is most likely to consist of the ‘band being too tight’ and that removing some fluid will resolve the issue.

There are, however, many serious possibilities that require far more involved treatments and investigations these are likely to include admission to hospital and specialist care – for example for the treatment of sever dehydration, peritonitis, bleeding gastric ulcer, gastritis, infection, herniation or prolapse etc.

It is essential to have a team involved who know your present and previous history and who are able to deal with such situations as they arise.  Because of this :-

We seek that you transfer completely & not ‘yo-yo’ between providers

X-ray

Your first appointment will include an X-ray .  If you are a banded patient this may include a band adjustment / fill  - if clinically indicated.

Cost of first transfer of care appointment

    • £195  -  X-ray + adjustment of the band in situ if clinically indicated

Band adjustment - costs

    • £130 for an inflation / fill / infill
    • £110 for a defill/ deflation (at the time of writing July 2009)

We seek to offer high standards in care and support. It is for this reason that we work closely as a team and have our own protocols and guidelines for accepting patients who have had their original surgery outside our care.
